Kick off your summer biking in Door County

Ephraim Shores Resort biking in door countyEnjoy the peninsula’s scenery on two wheels

Let’s be honest, the last year has been tough. Doesn’t it sound good to get away and enjoy fresh air and nature? If your idea of a great day is one where the rubber meets the road, then you’ll love biking in Door County. While starting to make your summer plans, Ephraim Shores Resort would like to help.

Are you interested in traveling down quiet rural roads or having an adventure in one of our five beautiful state parks? Door County is the only county in Wisconsin with FIVE state parks and we have all the scenery you’ll need for a short spin or all-day excursion. The Destination Door County website has put together a great list of trails that will take you all over the county and allow you to take in a few places that are off the beaten path.

Biking in Door County allows for a more personal experience

Spring and early summer is an amazing time to be in Door County. There are fewer people and it allows you time to peacefully explore a few places and all the natural beauty. Here are some of our favorite spots for biking in Door County:

County Road Q
Ephraim’s Church Street — just a few steps away from us — turns into County Road Q, a nine-mile forested stretch that takes riders across the peninsula to Baileys Harbor and past North Bay, Moonlight Bay and the Mud Lake State Wildlife Area. The route has multiple opportunities for lake views, including the turnoff for access to Cana Island.

Washington Island
Looking for an all-day biking adventure? Consider taking your bikes to Washington Island, or renting a bike when you’re there. The island bike route will lead you from the ferry dock all the way to Jackson Harbor. Explore the island’s Stavkirke, a stave church surrounded by a beautiful forest, take in a museum, catch a glimpse of the lavender fields in bloom, or skip a few smooth stones at Schoolhouse Beach.

Peninsula State Park
When it comes to biking in Door County, Peninsula State Park is one of the top destinations. There are 30 miles of hiking and biking trails in the park, including the Sunset Bike Route, a 9.6-mile stretch that offers plenty of great views — and places to stop and have a snack.

For cyclists, Ephraim Shores is one of the best places to stay, not only are we one of the closest hotels near Peninsula State Park, but we also have cruiser style bikes available for our guests to use. And a quick dip in our heated indoor pool or hot tub is a great way to relax at the end of a day biking in Door County. Start your summer off at Ephraim Shores Resort.
