IEI General Contractors Begins Work on Brillion School District STEM Facility

Remodeling Project Supports Elementary-Level Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics Program

BRILLION, Wisconsin – IEI General Contractors, Inc., of De Pere launched a $1 million remodeling project for the Brillion School District today (Monday, April 11) that will create a dedicated facility for its elementary school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program.

The project calls for remodeling an existing multi-purpose room in Brillion Elementary School into the STEM learning lab. The facility will be ready in time for the 2016 fall semester.

Brillion Public Schools, which already has a national reputation for STEM curricular integration at the high school level, is developing a hands-on program that features an Idea Lab for young learners in grades K-5.

IEI’s Role in the Project

IEI General Contractors is serving as general contractor, and its teams will complete all work aside from mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical.

The renovated space will include themed rooms that make it easy for young students to navigate. Environmental Graphic Design features the use of bright colors, STEM-related graphics, exhibit components, innovative technology and sustainable materials to create a stimulating learning environment.

The IEI-led project will culminate in an what Brillion educators see as an introductory program for the Ariens Technology and Engineering Education Center at Brillion High School. The primary goal of STEM curriculum is to increase the supply of qualified high-tech workers in the community.

STEM curriculum features seven skill sets for educating students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics: learn and apply content; integrate content; interpret and communicate information; engage in inquiry; engage in logical reasoning; collaborate as a team; and apply technology appropriately.
