Gas Trailer provides a variety of fleet mobile fueling solutions

Keith Krehel was determined to avoid a repeat of the fuel procurement nightmare created by Superstorm Sandy after his Snowbusters Winter Services business struggled to find fuel during the 2012 event. Sending staff from his New Jersey location all the way to Pennsylvania to fill gas cans was not his idea of cost-efficient fleet mobile fueling solutions.

Keith found the answer to his dilemma with one of the fleet mobile fueling solutions from Gas Trailer Portable Fuel Solutions, a division of Robinson Metal, Inc., Snowbusters uses the DOT-compliant Contractor 110 Deluxe trailer from Gas Trailer to transport fuel when and where it’s needed most.

“We’ve grown to where we now have 14 gas-burning vehicles that can be in a varying state of thirst,” Keith explains. “Prior to owning a Gas Trailer unit, we would lose a valued technician for hours as he repetitively drove vehicles to the gas station. What used to take five hours or more now takes maybe an hour. It’s been a godsend; it really has.”

Fleet mobile fueling solutions that save money

Since their first purchase of a Gas Trailer unit, Keith and the Snowbusters team have refined their pre-storm fueling routine down to a science. Not only does the process save time compared to fueling individual vehicles at a local gas station, it has created the clout Keith needs to negotiate lower fuel prices.

“Prior to a storm starting, we want to be full across the board,” Keith says of his fleet. “That can be problematic because our guys are either busy plowing, or fixing cars and trucks. If I’m the person who goes for gasoline, I’ll take one of our trucks to fill along with the trailer, and I can stay productive by making calls while waiting for the tanks to fill.”

Keith or another member of his team will take one of the trucks lowest on fuel along with the Gas Trailer for a fill-up, return to the Snowbusters lot to fuel as many vehicles as possible, and then repeat the process with another truck that’s low on fuel.

“We line up our fleet diagonally next to each other, and our guy can pull the trailer across the front of all the vehicles to fill them up,” Keith explains. “Then we have everything full ahead of a storm, along with extra gas in the trailer. It works out really well, and then we’re not sending people out when it’s a critical time.”

Summer double duty for fleet mobile fueling solutions

Gas Trailer units are not limited to winter snowstorm fuel strategies, of course, and Keith puts his company’s trailer to use in summer for fleet mobile fueling solutions for other types of vehicles.

“My brother and I have boats and WaveRunners, and filling them up with gas cans is quite an ordeal,” Keith says. “I have a QuadRunner that I use to tow the trailer down to the bulkhead, and I can put in 50 or 60 gallons in one quick shot. Again, I get to choose the price. Buying fuel at the water is at least a dollar per gallon more.”

All Gas Trailer units are DOT-compliant for safe and legal towing throughout the United States. The Contractor 110 Deluxe is one of several fleet mobile fueling solutions offered by Gas Trailer.
