Peninsula State Park hotelsPeninsula State Park hotels offer quick access to Door County’s crown jewel

This weekend is host to the Door County Half Marathon 2019, and those of you running it will get a firsthand peek at Peninsula State Park. If you are fortunate enough to be staying at one of the Peninsula State Park hotels, such as Ephraim Shores Resort, it is only a short trek to get there. While you won’t be able to see all the park has to offer during the race, it will give you a glimpse of what makes it so special.

Peninsula State Park hotels are a great resource for information about the park

Since Ephraim Shores is one of the closest Peninsula State Park hotels and most of our front desk staff are from Door County, we can provide our guests with some additional insight in regards to things to do. Being close to Peninsula State Park has its perks. For one, we get to visit it quite often and get to do and see more than most people.

There is nothing better on a hot summer day than frolicking in the water at Nicolet beach and soaking in some sun on the sand. How about a quick visit to the lighthouse in the park? Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is open for tours from mid-May through mid-October and is worth a visit.

If beaches are not your thing, maybe a walk or a bike ride on one of the many trails that traverse the park is. Peninsula State Park has over 20 miles of hiking trails available and if you enjoy being close to nature or are an avid bird watcher, these can provide some incredible sights.

While there is plenty to do year round, spring and early summer is a great time to take advantage of the smaller crowds and do some sightseeing. Skyline Road follows the highest terrain, giving excellent views of the bay and panoramic views of the park. There are also great views at Tennison Boat Launch and Welcker’s Point. Don’t forget, our private sundeck has one of the best sunset views in Door County!

What about taking in a show at an open-air theater at Northern Sky Theater? Their 2019 season has some great performances and this season is set to continue that tradition.

For those of you that enjoy golf, Peninsula State Park Golf Course is challenging and has some of the best views of the bay you will find. Once you finish your round and the course closes, visit the Memorial Pole where Chief Simon Onanguisse Kahquados, the last hereditary chief of the Potawatomi Nation, is buried.

Plan ahead, however. There is road construction this year, so check the weekly construction updates here. Then book your stay at Ephraim Shores. It is worth the effort to visit Door County’s Crown Jewel and staying at Peninsula State Park hotels like Ephraim Shores is a great way to access it all.
