Contract manufacturing fits with on-shored green energy projects

USA-produced carbon capture and electrolyzers may earn tax credits

Robinson Inc contract manufacturingContract manufacturing expertise from Robinson is fast becoming in demand as companies around the world leverage our ability to serve as a single source supply-chain partner for complex green energy projects. One of the key drivers behind the desire for USA-based contract manufacturing is clean energy tax provisions included in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

A wide range of renewable energy and green energy projects benefit from the IRA, and Robinson is uniquely positioned to deliver the contract manufacturing expertise for customers both domestic and international. Our Wisconsin facilities make it possible for companies everywhere to leverage our USA location for floor space, skilled labor and contract manufacturing excellence.

We are able to assist in the design and manufacturability of renewable energy projects, produce first-article builds, optimize designs, build and evaluate low-volume production, and finally ramp up to full production. Our comprehensive contract manufacturing capabilities streamline the production process and eliminate the need to engage multiple suppliers.

Contract manufacturing for electrolyzers, CCUS and BESS

Green energy projects can feature a wide range of technologies, some of which are relatively recent developments in the contract manufacturing world. Robinson has a long history of adapting to our customers’ needs, and this rapidly expanding market segment is no different.

Electrolyzers – An electrolyzer is a device that uses electricity to break down water or other substances into their basic parts through a chemical reaction called electrolysis. Electrolysis occurs when an electric current flows through a substance, causing it to break apart into its individual components.

An electrolyzer uses electricity to separate water molecules into two different gases: hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen gas can be stored in either a compressed form or as a liquid. The oxygen component can be released back into the atmosphere or collected and stored for use in other industrial activities.

CCUS – Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) is a process that captures carbon dioxide emissions from operations such as coal-fired power plants and either reuses them or otherwise prevents them from escaping into the atmosphere.

BESS – Battery energy storage systems (BESS) house batteries that receive energy from windmills or solar panels for use in peak shaving and microgrid independent power systems. Robinson’s contract manufacturing team delivers fully integrated energy storage systems.

Switchgear enclosures are a related product that provide a protected environment for external power systems. Similarly, these enclosures benefit from having their own protection when positioned outside. Our ability to provide cabling, connections and controls along with metal fabrication positions us as an elite contract manufacturing partner.
