From crisp whites to award-winning reds, here are our favorite spots to raise a glass
Door County may be known for its shoreline, lighthouses, and cherry pie (among other things!), but here’s a little secret: it’s also one of Wisconsin’s best wine destinations.
Whether you prefer fruit-forward blends, dry whites, bold reds, or something a little different — think a bubbly hard cider — the wineries in Door County have something for everyone. Even better? Many of these wineries are just a short drive from Ephraim Shores.
No matter if you’re planning a tasting tour with a few different stops or just want to unwind at a single location with a glass of local wine, here are eleven spots to explore across the peninsula.
Here’s your guide to all the wineries in Door County:
North of Ephraim
Island Orchard Cider, Ellison Bay
While technically one of the wineries in Door County, this Ellison Bay cidery is a must-stop. This tasting room and retail space features crisp, Normandy-style ciders made from local apples and pears. Our two tips: 1) Sip a flight on their outdoor patio surrounded by apple trees, and 2) don’t miss the lavender cider — it’s a guest favorite!
Just South of Ephraim
Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market, Fish Creek
Located just south of Ephraim Shores, this longtime favorite winery blends fruit wines with family-friendly fun. Cherry, raspberry, and apple wines are the specialties here, and the seasonal events — like cherry picking, fall festivals, and holiday tastings — keep guests coming back year after year.
Egg Harbor & Baileys Harbor
With so many top-tier wineries in Door County clustered near Egg Harbor, you can easily turn this into a day-long tasting tour.
Harbor Ridge Winery, Egg Harbor
Tucked into the trees near Egg Harbor, Harbor Ridge combines rustic lodge vibes with seriously good wine. Live music on the lawn, a robust retail space, and blends like “Mademoiselle” and “Two Rows Make a White” make this a fun, laid-back stop.
Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery, Egg Harbor
A newer addition to the scene, Anchored Roots Winery crafts small-batch wines from Washington-grown European vinifera and cold-hardy Wisconsin grapes. The result? A diverse menu that pairs bold reds from the Pacific Northwest with aromatic Midwestern whites. Don’t miss their peaceful open-air patio overlooking the vineyards.
Stone’s Throw Winery, Egg Harbor
If you could combine Napa, Door County, and Italian wine country, it might look like Stone’s Throw. Their Italian-style wines, outdoor courtyard complete with bocce ball and beautiful gardens, and on-site restaurant make this a destination in itself. They also offer private tastings and wine-paired dinners for the full experience.
Lake Fire Winery, Baileys Harbor
This boutique winery may be small, but its passion for crafting quality wine shines through beautifully. Known for limited-production reds and creative seasonal blends, Lake Fire Winery offers tastings in a cozy space that features live acoustic music every Friday. And, last but not least: a fantastic water view of Lake Michigan from their outdoor seating area!
In & Around Carlsville
Red Oak Winery, Carlsville
Known for their smooth reds and friendly staff, Red Oak Winery offers an inviting tasting room perfect for beginners and aficionados alike. Their Marquette and Marechal Foch wines are great picks for fans of Midwest-grown grapes. They also have a bourbon bar on site, too!
Door Peninsula Winery, Carlsville
One of the largest and most popular wineries in Door County, Door Peninsula Winery offers tastings of over 70 different wines and ciders. Located in a former schoolhouse, this spot also includes a distillery, gourmet shop, and a fun gift area — making it feel a bit like the best shops in Door County and a winery all in one.
Southern Sips: From Sturgeon Bay to Algoma
Door 44 Winery, Sturgeon Bay
Modern, bright, and easy to find off Highway 42, Door 44 is known for its estate-grown varieties. Try their semi-sweet “Bubbler” or a crisp Door County white. They also host educational tastings and vineyard tours if you’re curious about winemaking in the Midwest!
von Stiehl Winery, Algoma
While technically just outside Door County, von Stiehl is worth the scenic drive. Housed in a historic 1860s brewery building, it’s Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery. With award-winning wines and summer events like live music on the terrace, it’s a great way to kick off your wine tour on the way up the peninsula.
Whether you’re a casual sipper or a full-on wine enthusiast, these wineries in Door County are the perfect way to add flavor to your trip. And with so many located just minutes from Ephraim Shores, it’s easy to turn any afternoon into a toast-worthy experience.
